The UFC's decision to bypass Arman Tsarukyan has finally been demystified, and it's a revelation that's sure to spark debate among fans.
Arman Tsarukyan, the top-ranked lightweight contender, was understandably upset when the UFC announced Justin Gaethje and Paddy Pimblett as the interim title contenders for UFC 324. Many, including former champion Daniel Cormier, were left scratching their heads over this decision.
But here's where it gets controversial... After witnessing Gaethje's victory over Pimblett at UFC 324, Cormier had an epiphany. He now understands the UFC's perspective and the potential implications of their match-up.
"When you consider the magnitude of the fight between Gaethje and Topuria, and the fact that Gaethje is an American champion, it makes sense why they booked Pimblett vs. Gaethje," Cormier explained. "Whether Pimblett won or Gaethje won, the UFC had a star-studded main event for the White House fight in June. It was a win-win situation, and I think we all overlooked that."
And this is the part most people miss... With Gaethje now holding the belt, the UFC has an American champion heading into the White House fight. It's a strategic move that ensures a high-profile event.
"Now it all makes sense to me," Cormier added.
But here's the twist: UFC legend Demetrious Johnson believes Tsarukyan deserves a shot at the title. After training with the Armenian, Johnson believes Tsarukyan has the best chance of dethroning Ilia Topuria.
"Arman should have fought Gaethje or Pimblett for the interim belt. He's got the skills to beat Topuria," Johnson stated.
So, who do you think deserves the next title shot? Is it Tsarukyan, the top-ranked contender, or is the UFC's strategy with Gaethje a smart move? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
